Project Description

Our team conducted a series of tests and competitions for the students of Amritapuri Campus, to bring out the best from them. Our intention behind this project is to develop skills other than academics which would prove to be invaluable for them in the future.

Task Implemented

We conducted a general Aptitude test on 15 th September 2011, as a preliminary round  to test the basic logic and vocabulary skills of students.Out of almost 100 students participated in First round, we selected 34 students to next round.

Then we conducted Spell Bee - a vocabulary testing round to test the communication, logical and analytical thinking perspective of students, on 21 st October 2011.Out of 34 students participated , 14 were selected to next round.

The Third round was a Group Discussion round ,which was conducted on 11 th November 2011.From all th 9 semi-finalists we selected the first five as our finalists.

The finale was conducted on 17 Th November 2011.Product Launch and Stress Interview were conducted in three rounds to assess the performance of 5 finalists.

Firstly we discussed among our group about the relevance of this project for the students. We came to a conclusion that this project will enhance the skills and increase the confidence level for the placements ahead.

We began our project with name 'Mr. & Ms. Amrita', a campus wide talent hunt competition to find the very best Male and female student of Amritapuri campus. We began our registration after the setting up of our posters.

We then conducted the Aptitude test on  15 th September 2011,a general aptitude test based on questions on Quantitative test and Verbal skills. The students performed well in this round, especially in Quantitative tests. The general average of students were  60%.Students having  80% or more was selected to the second round, which was a spell Bee competition.Out of 100 students who attended the first round 34 students were selected to second round.

We renamed our event as " Mind Bogglers " according to the opinion of our audience and participants, to make the event more interesting. The second round was conducted on  21 st October 2011, which was a Spell Bee competition to test the communication ability as well as the verbal skills of students. The students were grouped into pairs of two and one of the students was given a  word . The next 90 seconds were given for that participant to give clues to their partner. If Partner guess it right , both will be awarded marks and otherwise it was based on the performance , the  marks were allotted. The process was repeated for  the other team member too. Students performed extremely well to utilize their time to score the maximum .Overall the vocabulary and communication skills were tested and the best 14 were selected to the next round, which was the semi-finals.

We conducted our  third round (Semi-finals) as  Group Discussion on  11-11-11 , one of the rare moments of century to decide our final Five contestants. We began our event by showing a video on the controversial actor Santhosh Pandit and Malayalam movie industry. We put forward the contestants the topic 'Who is the real curse of Malayalam Movie Industry? Who are the real problem creators ?'. The participants performed extremely well to bring out the 360 degree view point of the topic starting from the root of SuperStar crisis to the value of Movies now a days. From these extremely talented contestants, we selected the best 5 to the Grand Finale.

Our Grand Finale was organized on 17 th November 2011 at 5:00 pm.After the lighting of lamp by Dr. K K Sujatha, HoD English Dept, Amritapuri Campus , Shekhar Sir , Swaminathan Sir we  began our final by the intoduction of our finalists - Khyati Dinesh, Rahul Potti, Harikrishnan A, Parvathy S and Sruthi Patel.

The finale was conducted in three rounds - individual Product launch, Product launch on same topic and Situation Management. Our judges shared a common opinion that "each participant competed with good spirit and was excellent and was almost equal in their talents and to judge the winners from them was extremely difficult". All the participants were given their finalist certificate and Parvathy S and Harikrishnan A were decalred the Winner and Runner Up respectively.

We as Team MindBogglers 2011, were indeed happy in honoring our semi-finalists to the winners. The prizes were distributed by Biju Kumar, Chairman, CIR Department .

The event was a huge success among the entire Amritapuri Campus with students from all the batches were attending and participating in the entire rounds of MindBogglers.
